You can choose to create an account or just use one of five other credentials to set up an account (Level9, OpenID, LiveJournal, Google (Gmail) or Meetro. The functionality is the same. Zooomr also offers the site in 15 languages.

The real benefit of zooomr is the wide variety of metadata that can be associated with a photo. Any photo can have an audio annotation, although recording functionality is not yet built into zooomr and so you must do this from your camera or an audio program and upload it separately. Zooomr has a built in flash player to listen to the annotation. You can also associate any person with a photo (something you can?t do on flickr, where you can only tag a photo with a person?s name if you like), and there is very tight integration with Google maps to allow geographic information to be included with a photo. If a lot of photos are geo tagged in a specific place at the same time, zooomr assumes they are part of an event even if the photos are all from different users."

Newsvine is Perfect

Newsvine is Perfect: "Newsvine combines the best features of a number of companies and products like Digg and Google News with great features like chat and blogging-style comments. This is a classic mistake that we saw in the first Internet bubble—the blind assumption that the “new world is going to completely replace the “old world. But the reality is, no amount of technology can completely replace the web of relationships in an industry such as advertising.

As an outsider reading about Google, they seem to have the problem of taking their technology hammer and viewing every problem as a nail. His thesis is that the rise of self publishing on the Web (for both businesses and individuals), pervasive search, and RSS feeds will soon combine together to make such paid listing sites less relevant.

That is where Google Base comes in, which he points out is an XML database, meaning that it can automatocally exchange data with other Websites. Burnham thinks that Google Base is going to suck up all the listings data out there on the Web and automatically generate new listings directories such as Google Cars, Google Jobs, and Google Houses. And that will leave the current paid listings sites, as well as certain vertical search startups, in a world of hurt."

Patent Office Comes Down on Side of Blackberry

Patent Office Comes Down on Side of Blackberry: "Blackberry-maker Research in Motion won a victory at the Patent Office against patent-holding company NTP."

Enseñar Diseño Inteligente es anticonstitucional

Enseñar Diseño Inteligente es anticonstitucional: "To be sure, Darwin’s theory of evolution is imperfect. I especially like #3, 'Be Casual.' Excerpts below:

#1: Be Narrow Focus on the smallest possible problem you could solve that would potentially be useful. Small things, like a microscopic world, almost always turn out to be bigger than you think when you zoom in.

#2: Be Different
Ideas are in the air. There are lots of people thinking about—and probably working on—the same thing you are. And one of them is Google. Deal with it.

#3: Be Casual
We're moving into what I call the era of the 'Casual Web' (and casual content creation). This is much bigger than the hobbyist web or the professional web. Why? Because people have lives. And now, people with lives also have broadband. If you want to hit the really big home runs, create services that fit in with—and, indeed, help—people's everyday lives without requiring lots of commitment or identity change.

#4: Be Picky
It applies to everything you do: features, employees, investors, partners, press opportunities."

Esto ha ido demasiado lejos

Esto ha ido demasiado lejos: "Esto ha ido demasiado lejos.
